Alfred Adler, psychotherapist
I live, learn, play and work on the beautiful south coast of NSW and acknowledge the Yuin/Jerrinja owners of these unceded lands.
I've worked with community services, not-for-profits, higher education institutions, disaster relief agencies and social enterprises in Australia and the UK. I've offered trauma informed services in diverse contexts including community health, domestic violence, refugee settlement, housing, disability advocacy and palliative care.
You are the expert in your life!
I strive to practice reflexively and relationally with cultural humility, humour and a beginner’s mind. My evolving approach is grounded in humanist therapeutic practices and grows through exploring social constructionism, creative therapies, ecotherapy and neuroscientific research. I respect, and seek opportunities to learn from, First Nations Knowledge and healing practices.
As a values-led therapist supervisor coach and academic educator, I advocate to address systemic and social issues that undermine health across the lifespan, while adhering to respectful and responsive work practices that promote wellbeing and vitality.
My people are from Yorkshire in northern England and I am a "white body" (Menakem, 2021) raised with cisgender (she/her) and heterosexual privilege. Decolonising my practice is an ongoing process of connecting, learning, making mistakes, recentering and trying to be/do better.
A qualified, experienced and accredited therapist supervisor, I attend regular training, mentoring and supervision. I also teach, supervise and learn from postgraduate counselling and psychotherapy students.
I acknowledge the Yuin, Jerringja and Wangal people, traditional owners of the unceded lands on which I live, study and work Walking on Country.
I value the traditional knowledge and healing practices of all cultures.
Thanks for visiting. Individual supervision and therapy appointments and group supervision sessions are available to book online. See you soon, warmly Alison
